WILLIAMSBURG— The Miss Virginia Opportunity Inc., in partnership with The Williamsburg History Nonprofit and Colonial Williamsburg Merchants Square, announced its participation in the America’s 250th Shoe Parade, a national celebration commemorating the United States 250th anniversary.
The custom-designed Miss Virginia Shoe, created through a collaboration among the three organizations, will debut at the America’s 250 Parade in Philadelphia on July 3, 2026. It will later be featured on the runway at the Miss America Competition on Sept. 4, 2026.
Inspired by Virginia’s role as the birthplace of America, the shoe’s design highlights the state’s history and its connection to the nation’s founding while recognizing Virginia’s 250th commemoration. Organizers said the design also reflects the mission of the Miss Virginia Opportunity Inc., which focuses on scholarship, service and leadership.
As part of Miss America Opportunity Inc., Miss Virginia promotes academic achievement, community engagement and leadership development for young women across the commonwealth.
Organizers said that if the design is selected among the top three in the Shoe Parade, Miss Virginia will receive additional scholarship funding to support women pursuing higher education.
The project includes contributions from artists in Merchants Square, as well as designers, historians, students and local volunteers. Organizers said the effort was intended to honor tradition while inspiring future leaders.
“This project beautifully reflects who we are,” Nancy Lucy of Miss Virginia Opportunity Inc. said. “It honors our past, celebrates our present, and invests in the future of young women through scholarship and opportunity.”
The shoe will travel from Philadelphia to the Miss America stage as part of the anniversary celebration. For updates, visit www.missvirginia.org.
