GLOUCESTER — Members of the Gloucester Daffodil Club are gearing up for a busy spring season that includes its annual Daffodil Festival, Daffodil Show, and the release of the club’s first-ever cookbook: “Daffodils and Delicacies — Divine Dining.”

The cookbook was created as a fundraiser for the club. Within its pages are hundreds of recipes, from breakfast dishes to beverages. Many of the recipes have a pen and ink drawing of a daffodil chosen by the recipe’s contributor.

Recipes were submitted by club members, as well as from daffodil farmers around the world. Dave and Jules Hardy, owners of Esker Farm in Northern Ireland, Ian Tayler of England, and Brian Duncan from Northern Ireland are some of the notable contributors. The current president of the American Daffodil Society, past presidents, and gold and silver medal recipients of the society also contributed recipes.

While creating the book, the club even made some of the recipes from the book as a taste test.

“We’ve really just tried to incorporate our love for food and for daffodils. We really worked hard to include things not just from our local members but from world-famous daffodil growers, competition judges, and more,” said Anne Earman, public relations chair of the club.

The club is currently taking pre-orders for the book. Pre-orders are available by mail until March 1. Checks for $20 per book plus $5 for shipping should be payable to Gloucester Daffodil Club and mailed to Gloucester Daffodil Club, 8303 Robins Neck Road, Gloucester, VA  23061. After March 1, books are $25 per book plus $5 for shipping.

A mission of the Gloucester Daffodil Club is to plant and encourage plantings of daffodils throughout our area. The club teaches youth and adults how to show and grow daffodils and supports the Gloucester Daffodil Festival and Gloucester Daffodil Show. The club notes members of the Gloucester Daffodil Club have planted over 200,000 daffodils in the community over the past five years, and the money raised from the book will help continue this tradition.
Gloucester’s annual Daffodil Festival returns April 5 and 6. Running that same weekend is the Gloucester Daffodil Show. In 2023, it was the largest show in the country, with 1,227 horticulture entries and 2,228 stems plus 127 photography entries. The show is free and open to the public
Cookbooks will be for sale at the daffodil festival at the Gloucester Daffodil Club tent.
