LINK of Hampton Roads is collecting used furniture for people transitioning out of homeless.
The nonprofit is looking for donations of the following items: couches, love seats, chairs, tables and chairs, side tables, lamps, coffee tables, beds and bed frames and rugs.
Lynne Finding, executive director for LINK, said they have already helped eight people transition and are in the process of assisting 13 more clients.
She added they will help more people who are part of the nonprofit’s winter shelter program, PORT, seek housing as well.

“This month alone we have had the above numbers,” Finding wrote in an email. “We are working diligently with Hampton Social Services to utilize Rapid Rehousing funds to place the most vulnerable.”
When asked why people should donate to the shelter, Finding said the donations go directly to the homeless clients to help them transition to housing.
“Without the basics mentioned above the homeless have zero funds to spend on furniture or a moving truck and manpower to move these much needed items,” she said. “The shelter and local congregations provide an enormous amount of effort and finances to the running of the PORT program, however these basic items of furniture, bedding, pots pans dishes and transportation of these such is rarely considered for the homeless transitioning to housing. “
Those donating items like gently used furniture, can schedule a pick up by calling the nonprofit’s operations manager at 757-947-5880. Lighter items and bedding can be dropped off at LINK of Hampton Roads, 10413 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Those who wish to help but do not have items to donate can send the nonprofit money for diabetic foods, bus tickets, work shoes, maintenance fees and transportation expenses.
