Get your resumes ready — the Hampton’s Sheriff’s Office is hosting a hiring event on Saturday.
“Applicants should be prepared to interview and relax,” Lt. Brandy White, spokeswoman for the Hampton Sheriff’s Office, said.
Some advice to applicants is to be punctual, honest, enthusiastic and excited, White said.
Positions being filled at the department include sheriff’s deputies, registered nurses, dental assistants, court security deputies and receptionists, according to the Hampton Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.
Starting salary for a sheriff’s deputy is $38,688. Information on salaries for the other positions was not immediately available.
This is one of four hiring events that the department has every year, White said.
When asked if the office was short staffed or if the department was expanding, White wrote the following in an email: “Our office has available positions opened for those who are interested in law enforcement as a career. No, our office isn’t expanding at this time.”
It’s unclear how many people are expected to be hired. White said in an email the department’s primary focus is hiring people who are passionate and trainable, not numbers.
“This is more than just a job and filling a position,” she added. “This is an opportunity to connect with law enforcement and be a part of a team that gives back to the community.”
The Recruitment to Hire Event is at Circuit Court, 237 N. King St., on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Candidates must bring a completed application, a form of identification and other documents and complete registration by 10 a.m. Civilians are expected to appear in business attire, deputy candidates should wear sweats and sneakers.
Snacks will be provided and no cellphones, weapons, contraband or children are allowed.
