The FBI’s Norfolk field office will host a community event about diversity and inclusion at the headquarters of the Newport News Police Department on Thursday.

The goal of the program is to educate the community about the role of each agency and how they work together to keep their jurisdictions safe, according to the FBI’s news release.

The event will feature several keynote speakers, including Martin Culbreth, special agent in charge at the FBI’s Norfolk field office, Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew, Synethia Newby, president of Greater Works Consulting Group LLC and Kaleb Coleman, a recent graduate from the FBI’s Future Agents in Training program.

In addition, the panel speakers will discuss how they can diversify their workforce, the goals of their outreach programs and how law enforcement can improve relationships with the community.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions and get information about community outreach programs.

The panel will be moderated by Billy McIntyre, chairman of the Hampton Roads Diversity and Inclusion Consortium and key sponsors of the event include the Newport News Police Department, the Newport News Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association and the Hampton Roads Diversity and Inclusion Consortium.

For more information about the A Commitment to Fostering Diversity & Inclusion event, email Vanessa Torres, FBI community outreach specialist at vbtorres@fbi.gov.

The event Thursday is free and open to the public; however, seating is limited and registration is required. Register here.

It will be in the Community Room at Newport News Police Department Headquarters, 9710 Jefferson Ave., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
