You might want to attend this event if you want to know more about Sickle Cell Disease

NORFOLK — June 19 is World Sickle Cell Day and The Urban League of Hampton Roads is once again finding a way to spread awareness about the rare disease for the June Sickle Cell Disease Support Group at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

On June 18 at 6 p.m., ULHR will be joining Sickle Cell Family and Peer Advocates to teach participants about the disease as well as what resources are available for those who are affected by SCD at EVMA.

The idea of the event is to not only educate and reach out the public but to also commemorate the official day in 2008 when the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a resolution recognizing Sickle Cell Disease as a public health concern.

The group event will also allow participants to share their experiences on living with SCD and how to get the necessary resources when dealing with the disease.

Those planning on attending can register online.
