Editor’s note: This is the fifth and final installment of a five-part question and answer series with James City County’s five Community Services Unit officers. These officers are assigned to certain areas of the county and work directly with citizens to provide business and home inspections, as well as other services.

What zone do you work in and what areas does it cover?

Frantz has not been assigned a zone yet, as he is transitioning from patrol assignments to the Community Services Unit.

What about being in the CSU unit are you looking forward to the most?

“I’m still assigned to patrol right now. I typically work every zone in the county throughout the week and I’m pretty familiar with each zone, but I look forward to working with the citizens in one zone. I work the New Town are frequently right now, so I’m pretty familiar with the issues of certain areas.

I’m also looking forward to getting out there and continuing to build on those relationship and have a positive impact. It’ll definitely focus my attention to the issues that are facing those communities, so hopefully I’ll can help solve those issues and build some lasting relationships.”

What’s your favorite food?

“I like steak. I’m always in the mood for a steak. If someone says ‘Hey, let’s go to dinner and get a steak,’ I will be there.”

What’s your favorite animal and why?

“I’m pretty partial to my chocolate lab. A dog will never make you feel bad.”

Do you have any pets?

“We have two cats and a beta fish. And a chocolate lab… it’s a bit busy sometimes.”

If you could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?

“I’ve always been fascinated with Australia. I don’t know, there’s just something about it that I find so interesting, like how big it is. It seems like the entire population lives on one coast, then its wide open the rest of the country.

What do you like to do when you’re off-duty?

“I just like to get out in the community with my family and friends and enjoy the different venues that the county offers.”

What’s a crime prevention tip you want people to know?

“We’re having an issue with phone scams and email scams. The biggest thing I would recommend to people is to not give their personal information to someone claiming to be an officer over the phone. They’re not real police officers. A real police officer would never call you and say you could get out of going to jail or owing money to the IRS by buying a gift card. That’s most definitely fraud.”

What’s a program or service that the department offers that you wish more people knew about and/or utilized?

“I’ve recently been trying to get the word out about the citizen’s police academy. It gives citizens who are interested in what we’re doing a glimpse of what we do on a day-to-day basis. It gives them the opportunity to see forensics and SWAT teams and other areas the police department has.”
