A 57-year-old man is facing several felonies after he allegedly threatened two women at gunpoint and held them inside a home in York County.

Leonard Brightman is charged with two counts of abduction, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to a York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office news release.

The sheriff’s office emergency communications center received a call around 7:48 a.m. Thursday reported an armed man was refusing to let two women leave his house in the 200 block of Walden Drive, the release said.

Brightman knew the two women, the release said.

Deputies arrived on scene at 7:49 a.m. and made entry into the home “shortly after” arriving because of the threatening nature of the situation, the release said.

Deputies took Brightman into custody and charged him with the five offenses.

Deputies then returned to his home with a search warrant and found a firearm and drug paraphernalia.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charged may be pending.
