A man was asleep on his boat in Yorktown when an armed man allegedly tried to rob him, according to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. Oct. 7 to a boat at a public dock on Water Street in Yorktown, according to York-Poquoson Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shelley Ward.

The alleged victim said he was sleeping when he was awoken by the sound of someone getting on the boat, Ward said.

The man said the person who boarded the boat brandished a firearm, but left after he yelled at him to leave the boat, Ward said.

The unwelcome visitor did not make any demands for money or other items, according to the sheriff’s office report.

There were no injuries or violence that occurred during the incident.

The man who boarded the boat is described as about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 160 pounds. He has short black hair and a medium to slim build, Ward said.

Ward said the police report does not specify the type of boat or whether the man lives on board.

Police are still investigating the incident.
