An argument resulted in a man getting cut on his face and torso at a hotel on Capitol Landing Road, police said.

Jeffery W. Ramey Sr., 53, was arrested Wednesday after he got into an argument with another 53-year-old man at a hotel in the 900 block of Capitol Landing Road, cut him twice, then fled the scene, Williamsburg Police Department spokesman Maj. Greg Riley said.

Ramey is charged with maiming in connection with the incident.

Police responded to a different motel, located in the 800 block of Capitol Landing Road, around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in response to a reported stabbing.

Riley said police arrived and talked to both the victim and a witness, who said the incident occurred inside the hotel just before 8:30 a.m. The witness saw the altercation from a location inside the hotel.

Both the victim and witness told police Ramey cut the victim during an argument. Riley said it is not clear why the men started arguing.

The victim was transported to Riverside Doctor’s Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries on his face and torso. He was later released, Riley said.

While officers investigated the incident, Ramey called the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office and told them he was at a residence.

Sheriff’s deputies took Ramey into custody for a mental evaluation, Riley said.

After the evaluation, Williamsburg Police took custody of Ramey and took him to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
