A written bomb threat was discovered in a bathroom at Norfolk Naval Shipyard Thursday morning.
The threat was found by a shipyard employee around 7:50 a.m. The bathroom was located in an area where shipyard employees are trained, according to the U.S. Navy.
The area has been evacuated, and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service has been notified. The area will remain evacuated while the threat is investigated, but the shipyard will continue to operate as normal in areas that are not impacted, according to the Navy.
Thursday’s threat is one in a series of bomb threats made to Hampton Roads Navy bases and facilities this week.
Six of those threats were made to different areas and ships located at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story on Monday and Wednesday.
There was also a threat made to Naval Station Norfolk on Wednesday morning, two days after a sailors spotted a suspicious scuba diver near pier seven. The sighting shut down all 13 piers on Naval Station Norfolk so that the ships could be searched by Navy divers and an explosive unit.
