22-year-old Yorktown man killed in crash, ejected from vehicle

A 22-year-old Yorktown man lost his life Wednesday night when he crashed his sedan into a tree in Gloucester County, police say.

Matthew Gowen was driving a 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis northbound on Low Ground Road when he swerved into the opposite lane, over-corrected and struck a tree, said Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police.

Gowen was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, Anaya said.

He suffered major injuries and was transported to Walter Reed Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Virginia State Police are investigating the fatal accident, Anaya said.
