Police: Bicyclist hit by car, investigated for drug possession

Williamsburg Police started a narcotics investigation into a bicyclist Wednesday following an accident in which the cyclist claimed to be hit by a vehicle.

According to Maj. Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department, the bicyclist says he was struck by an unknown vehicle near the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Randolph Street around 7:25 p.m.

As a result of the accident, the cyclist fell from his bike and received a minor head wound. The fall also caused unidentified pills to fall from his bag.

When police arrived at the scene, they observed pills spilled on the ground, Riley said. He said police “secured” the drugs in order to send them to a lab for testing.

Riley said once the results from the lab return, police will determine whether or not to press charges against the bicyclist.

Medics treated the bicyclist’s wounds following the accident and transported him to Riverside Doctor’s Hospital for further evaluation.
