Officials with the Peninsula Health District are warning residents of York County to be on the lookout for the signs of rabies after a rabid kitten was discovered near Queen’s Lake Middle School, according to a news release.

The 10 to 12-week-old kitten was part of a litter of feral cats, and only one kitten has tested positive for rabies, the release said.

The release warns residents and businesses near Valor Court in York County to watch for potentially rabid animals and to report any bites or scratches from animals immediately to the Peninsula Health District.

If you or your pet may have been exposed to the rabid kitten, contact the Health Department at 757-603-4277 or call York County Animal Control at 757-890-3601.
