NORFOLK — A North Carolina man is facing a felony charge after officials say he assaulted a Norfolk police officer on Thursday.
Tramyne Hickmon, 41, of Havlock, N.C., was charged with felony assault of a police officer after he allegedly punched a Norfolk Police Department officer in the face several times, according to the NPD.
Police say the officer was trying to help Hickmon, who had approached the officer in the 100 block of Saint Paul’s Boulevard around 3 p.m. and said someone was trying to kill him. When the officer began to investigate Hickmon’s statement, the man became “erratic” and tried to get back into his car, according to the NPD.
Hickmon began throwing punches when the police officer reached for him. The officer used pepper spray to get control of the situation and arrested Hickmon, who was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
He’s currently in the Norfolk City Jail without bond.
