Resident hospitalized for burns after Schenk Estates house fire

york fire truckA York County resident was hospitalized for burn injuries following a Tuesday afternoon house fire in the Schenk Estates subdivision, fire officials said.

Fire crews from York County and James City County responded to the 300 block of Hudson Drive around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find one person suffering from burn injuries and heavy fire coming from the single-story house, the release said.

A family member from a nearby house had pulled the person from the structure before firefighters arrived, according to the release.

There were no other occupants in the home.

The injured resident was taken to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond.

The home suffered substantial damage from the fire, and units were still on scene at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday doing salvage and overhaul, the release said.

The cause and origin is currently under investigation.
