Two-time U.S. Olympic gold medal-winning taekwondo athlete Steven Lopez will be in Upper York County on July 2 to host a special workshop at the Baeplex Martial Arts Center.

The visit by Lopez, a five-time Olympian and six-time world champion, comes ahead of the USA National Taekwondo Championships, being held July 4-10 in Richmond and the 2016 Summer Olympics, set for Aug. 5-21 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

While in Williamsburg, Lopez and his coach, Jean Lopez, will lead a taekwondo workshop from 10 a.m. to noon at Baeplex’s new campus, which opened in November. The workshop will include dynamic warmups, drills, partner exercises and light sparring.

“It’s a very hands-on event,” said Baeplex President Joseph Ash. “The athletes will be tested and pushed for the two-hour period.”

During the workshop, Lopez, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, also will speak about his background and how he overcame adversity to reach his current level of success.

It will cost $250 to participate in the workshop and an autograph and photo session with Lopez.

Attending just the autograph and photo session will cost $25. These tickets are extremely limited, with only 20 spots available for purchase.
