Check out all the crime stories that did not make the headlines this week and others you may have missed below.

York County

Two Accused of Stealing Clothing from Tabb Walmart

Two people have been charged with grand larceny and conspiracy to commit grand larceny after being accused of stealing $975 of clothes from Walmart.

Ivey said Shaun Schreiber, 21 from Hampton, and Jamie Routten, 40, are suspected of placing a variety of clothes in a bag and pushing the shopping cart past the register without paying Dec. 16.

After exiting the store, Schreiber allegedly fled on foot across the parking lot, Ivey said. Schreiber was eventually stopped when a YPSO deputy pulled up in front of him. He was detained until loss prevention employees could identify him.

James City County

Owner Reports Break-In at Guild Hall

An interior design shop owner in James City County off Jamestown Road told police $230 was missing from the cash register the day after Christmas.

The woman said she arrived at Guild Hall, located at 1300 Jamestown Road, at around 10 a.m. Dec. 26 and discovered several items were out of place, authorities said.

She also noticed $230 in cash had been taken from the cash register.

A police report said there were no signs of forced entry into the building. The investigation is ongoing.

A 36-year-old man is facing several felony charges after police say he assaulted a woman and broke her cell phone when she tried to call 911.

The woman told police she and Brian Ray Baker, whom she knows, got into a verbal argument on Christmas Day at around 12:25 p.m. in a residence on Dunning Street in Williamsburg.

The woman allegedly left the residence and called 911 when she reached Lafayette Street, telling police Baker assaulted her, prevented her from leaving the residence and broke her cell phone while she was attempting to call 911, Maj. Greg Riley with the Williamsburg Police Department said.

Eventually, Baker allowed her to leave the residence, Riley said. The woman was treated by medics for minor injuries to her face, and Baker was charged with abduction, domestic assault, destruction of private property and unlawful use or injury to a telephone.

An emergency protective order was issued for the woman. The next day, she reported to police Baker had attempted to contact her, therefore violating the order.

Officers went to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail, where Baker is being held, and obtained a warrant charging Baker with attempting to violate a protective order.

Two Accused of Cashing Fraudulent Checks

A Williamsburg man and a James City County woman are facing felony forgery charges after a business in the 1600 block of Richmond Road reported several people cashed fraudulent checks Nov. 27.

Rebecca Ann Lee, 23, and Steven M. Altepeter, 35, are also suspected of cashing fraudulent checks at a business located in the 900 block of Capitol Landing Road, Riley said.

Police served Lee warrants charging her with three counts of forgery and three counts of obtaining money by false pretenses for the two incidents. Altepeter was charged with one count each of forgery and obtaining money by false pretenses.

Lee was also charged last week after an acquaintance accused her of stealing more than $200 worth of video games and accessories from him and selling them at Game Stop.

Altepeter was also arrested last week by James City County Police after the owner of a James City County business told investigators Altepeter — a former employee — and another former employee sent copies of valid payroll checks to a third party, police said.

One Suspected of Stealing Television, Xbox From Williamsburg Home

A 32-year-old man is facing one felony count of grand larceny after a man who lives on Grove Avenue off Page Street told police in July his television and Xbox game system were missing.

Williamsburg Police identified a possible suspect Nov. 12 and recovered the stolen items. On Dec. 6, officers obtained a warrant charging Corey Dean Vick, a James City County man, with grand larceny. The warrant was served Dec. 30 and Vick was taken into custody, police said.
