A 25-year-old man charged with distributing marijuana waived his preliminary hearing Friday.

Quang Phuong Nguyen’s case will now go to a grand jury, who will determine if there is enough evidence to prosecute.

Police Officers from the Tri-Rivers Drug Task Force, an agency consisting of local and state investigators, allegedly found more than 5 pounds of marijuana in Nugyen’s Chickahominy Haven residence in August.

They also found a firearm and cash, according to Stephanie Williams of the James City County Police Department.

Nguyen was originally charged with possession with intent to distribute more than 5 pounds of marijuana, transporting more than 5 pounds of marijuana into Virginia and possession of a firearm while distributing more than 1 pound of marijuana.

He waived his preliminary hearing on the distribution of marijuana and transportation of marijuana charges Friday. The possession of a firearm charge was dropped.
