After a first round of interviews with James City County administrator hopefuls, the Board of Supervisors has asked consulting firm Colin Baenziger & Associates to readvertise the position.
Supervisors sat down with Colin Baenziger Senior Vice President Tom Andrews in February to outline desired characteristics of a new administrator. Andrews used the information to advertise the position, which he estimated would receive more than 75 applications but instead yielded 54 applications.
On Monday, supervisors gathered in a closed session to interview an unreleased number of candidates for the position. County Human Resources Director Pete Peterson said Friday the board asked Andrews to readvertise the position.
Peterson did not have additional details about the advertisement, including when it would be advertised and how long the advertisement would be available.
As for the candidates who interviewed Monday, Peterson said he does not think any have been eliminated.
The board was initially scheduled to conduct interviews June 5, according to a timeline released in February that showed a candidate could be selection as early as the first week in June. Peterson said it is still possible an administrator could be hired in June.
“Sometimes you can move pieces of the processes around and kind of make up time, so I don’t think anything is impossible at this point,” Peterson said.
Former Assistant County Administrator Doug Powell has been serving as acting county administrator since January; he was also named general manager of the James City Service Authority in late February.
Robert Middaugh, the county’s former administrator, was fired in late November.
