A 31-year-old James City County man is facing felony assault by strangulation charge after he allegedly choked a woman until she passed out and then tried to put her into a truck.
Michael Charles Davis was arrested by the James City County Police Department on Monday in connection with the alleged offense. Officers responded at about 11:46 a.m. to a residence on Burgess Street, which is near Merrimac Trail, for a reported assault. She said a man she identified as Davis knocked her to the ground, spit on her and used his hand to cover her mouth and nose while using his leg across her neck to choke her until she passed out, said Stephanie Williams-Ortery of the James City County Police Department.
She told the officers she woke up as Davis was placing her in a truck outside the residence. She told police she jumped out of the opposite side of the truck and ran to a neighbor’s home. Davis is then believed to have left the residence.
Officers observed bruising on her face and lacerations around her mouth. They also found the residence in disarray. The woman told them the house was in order prior to the alleged incident with Davis.
While officers were speaking with the woman, Davis came back to the neighborhood. Officers then arrested him.
Williams-Ortery said Davis and the woman know each other. An emergency protective order was issued following his arrest.
