The James City County Recreation Center is offering a free Destination Recreation Expo and the Office of Housing and Community Development is offering a free First-Time Homebuyer class and a Homebuyer Club. Go Ape! to Build New Children’s Course
Go Ape! at Freedom Park has announced plans to build a new treetop adventure courses for children age 5 and up. The existing treetop adventure course is restricted to children age 10 and older; the company hopes the new addition will provide more families and groups opportunities to enjoy the attraction.
The build is expected to begin in late winter or early spring this year and is planned to open this summer.
Destination Recreation Expo
The James City County Recreation Center is offering a free Destination Recreation Expo from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Feb. 23. The expo will include demonstrations, hands-on activities and raffles for children. Adults can find out information about summer camps, sports, aquatics, special events, REC Connect, and parks and facilities.

Free First-Time Homebuyers Class
James City County’s Office of Housing and Community Development is offering a free First-Time Homebuyer class from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19 and Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Law Enforcement Center Community Room at 4600 Opportunity Way.
The class will cover personal finances, credit and credit scoring, qualifying and applying for a loan, choosing the right home and what happens at loan closing.
Mortgage companies require some applicants to complete a homebuyer class prior to approving a loan. Citizens who attend both sessions will receive a certificate of completion.

Homebuyer Club
James City County’s Office of Housing and Community Development will hold the first meeting of the 2013 Homebuyer Club at 6 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Liz Moore Realty Office in New Town.
The Homebuyer Club is a yearlong program aimed at helping citizens prepare for home ownership. Club members learn about developing spending and saving plans, calculating income for home ownership, understanding credit and credit scores, working with real estate agents and lenders and learning about insurance and closing.

James City County Historical Commission released the newest issue of its Focus on History newsletter. Focus on History is published three times per year. The newsletter is available online.
