The Farley Center at Williamsburg Place announced Monday the creation of a separate private foundation.
The Foundation at Williamsburg Place aims to “advance therapeutic, educational and research programs for substance abuse.”
The Foundation is set to launch in January 2013, seeking private donations. The initial board for the foundation will meet this week. Robin Bledsoe, a professional consultant with extensive experience with nonprofits including the Heritage Humane Society, will act as the first executive director of the Foundation.
The board will determine how the Foundation, once active, can best serve the community. Its focus will be on addiction and substance abuse, said Gina de Peralta Thorne, director of business development for The Farley Center. Its funds could be used to improve access to addiction treatment, finance research projects or assist organizations that provide prevention-based education, she said.
George K. White, president of the Diamond Healthcare Corporation that owns the Farley Center, said the Foundation’s creation has been “an important goal for The Farley Center for a number of years.”
“It is our wish that through the Foundation, patients and families and the community can gain an even greater appreciation for addictive disease prevention and treatment,” White said.
The Farley Center is a treatment center dedicated to helping patients recover from alcohol and drug addiction.
