Sales Tax Holiday on Appliances Starts Friday

Homeowners looking to replace appliances can seize the opportunity this weekend when the state celebrates its eco-friendly tax holiday.

From Friday to Monday, purchases of certain Energy Star and WaterSense qualified products that cost $2,500 or less will be exempt from sales tax. Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy designed to help consumers save money and protect the environment through energy-efficient products and practices.

The exempt Energy Star items include dishwashers, washing machines, refrigerators, air conditioners, ceiling fans, compact fluorescent light bulbs, dehumidifiers and programmable thermostats.

The exempt WaterSense items include bathroom sink faucets, faucet accessories, showerheads and toilets.
