York Notebook: EDA Considers Joint Incubator Tuesday

The Economic Development Authority will consider an agreement with Williamsburg and James City County to fund a joint business incubator on Tuesday. Through Friday, the library will forgive fines for overdue items and on Tuesday.

EDA to Discuss Triangle Incubator Tuesday

The Economic Development Authority will consider approval of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the City of Williamsburg EDA and James City County EDA to jointly fund a Historic Triangle Business Incubator.

The three localities have explored the option for more than two years as an opportunity to diversify the economy of the Triangle. The idea of a joint incubator was included in the Historic Triangle Collaborative’s report from the Economic Diversification Task Force in August 2010.

The EDA will also consider allocating additional funds to replenish its e-commerce grant program, and receive an update on the EDA’s strategic planning process. In addition, it will consider approving a proposal for surveying and engineering services for a property located at 410 Old York Hampton Highway and receive a presentation on possibly sponsoring START Peninsula.

The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the County Administration Building conference room.

Library Fine Amnesty Offered Through Friday

The York County Public Library is sponsoring the “Once in a Blue Moon” Fine Amnesty program to encourage patrons to return overdue materials.

Until Aug. 31, late fines will be waived on all books, DVDs, CDs and other items. To have the fine waived, bring your overdue materials and library card to the Circulation Desk. The waiver does not apply to charges for lost or damaged items.

Currently, the library has about 1,700 overdue items, according to Library Director Kevin Smith. The fine-waiver program coincides with the astronomical blue moon occurring Friday – both are rare occurrences, according to a press release.
