Virginia Beer Company Announces Free Show by Nationally Touring Band Jimkata

Jimkata will make its only Virginia tour stop on Aug. 22 at Virginia Beer Co. (Jimkata)

WILLIAMSBURG — On the heels of its newest studio album, “Running in Place,” Jimkata will be bringing its electro-rock sound to The Virginia Beer Company for a one-night-only free show on Friday, Aug. 22.

VBC noted this will be the first time that a nationally touring band will play at the brewery, which has been recognized for its commitment to showcasing the area’s live music scene. Jimkata’s appearance will be its only tour stop in the commonwealth.

The band has been described as “a hard-hitting dance party with soaring guitar riffs and soul-tickling lyrics.” It has built a loyal audience with its relentlessly feel-good performances, which grew from local house parties to club, theater, and festival dates on the strength of a series of critically acclaimed albums. Attendees can expect what Spin Magazine describes as an “epic force of indie electro-rock.”

Kevin Koons — a member of the brewery’s Taproom Team and a long-time fan of Jimkata — is thrilled to see the band coming to Williamsburg.

“I’m a huge fan of Jimkata and happened to notice they didn’t have a Virginia show on their current tour,” Koons explained. “I casually pitched the idea of a ‘garage days’ show following their North Carolina tour stop … and the idea took off, both from the band and brewery sides! This is an amazing opportunity to bring a nationally-recognized musical group to an intimate concert experience.”

The VBC taproom will open at noon that Friday, with free music starting at 7 p.m. Sound support will be provided by local DJ & live music promoter, Steve “Kudlz” Hathaway. With the later start, taproom hours will be extended to accommodate a 10 p.m. concert end time.

VBC beers, including a limited edition can of Gorgeous Citra IPA with special Jimkata branding, and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase, and a food truck will be on-site all day. Guests are asked to refrain from bringing pets, minors under the age of 16 and outside alcohol or containers to this event. In addition to the brewery’s on-site parking lot, spillover parking options are listed on VBC’s website and will be shared on the brewery’s social media platforms closer to the event.
