Yorktown, VA – On August 2, 2018, Delegate Mullin visited York-Poquoson Social Services in York County, Virginia to present HJ 543, Commending the Peninsula Elder Abuse Forensic Center agreed to by the House of Delegates on March 7, 2018 and the Senate on March 9, 2018.

The Peninsula Elder Abuse Forensic Center, sponsored by Riverside Center for Excellence in Aging in Lifelong Health, is a regional endeavor comprising the cities of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, and Williamsburg and the counties of York, James City, and Gloucester. The Peninsula Elder Abuse Forensic Center’s mission is to create a safe community in which older and incapacitated adults are empowered and free of abuse, neglect and exploitation. The Center serves as an enhanced multidisciplinary team (MDT) with the purpose of each organization taking concrete action steps in a case in order to achieve a positive outcome for the older adult client. The PEAFC hears complex cases of elder abuse, neglect and financial exploitation. Team members consist of representative from the following agencies in each locality: APS, law enforcement, Commonwealth’s Attorney (prosecutor), Victim Witness, Colonial Behavioral Health, Avalon Shelter, the Center for Sexual Assault Survivors, Peninsula Agency on Aging, a geriatrician, a forensic nurse, a neuropsychologist and a forensic accountant on the team. The PEAFC has been in operation since November 1, 2017.
