Visit Williamsburg announced today that Corrina Ferguson, Director of Destination Campaign Marketing for Visit Williamsburg received the Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME) designation this year. She is one of only 18 professionals in the world-wide destination industry to earn the CDME designation this year, the only integrated executive program specifically designed for destination (tourism and hospitality) marketing. It is also one of the tourism industry’s highest individual educational achievements.
The program is designed to better prepare senior destination organization executives and managers for increasing change and competition and to become more effective organizational and community leaders.
“Tourism is big business in Greater Williamsburg and we must stay competitive given there is more and more competition every day for the vacationer’s valuable dollar,” said Ms. Ferguson. “We live in a constantly changing world. The CDME designation enabled me to learn new things, gain new ideas, and to keep programs fresh and effective to achieve maximum impact for our destination.”
“Congratulations to those who have earned their CDME credential – the tourism industry’s highest individual achievement.” said Don Welsh, President and CEO of Destinations International. These leaders are now equipped with the knowledge needed to adapt and manage the increasing change and competition facing our industry.”
“This program is designed specifically to educate and inform executives in the destination industry, with classes and research papers on topics including leadership, strategic issues, marketing, advocacy & community and more. Corrina is now able to bring these new ideas and learnings back to Visit Williamsburg and help us build the best plans and programs we can to drive awareness of and visitation to the region,” said Bob Harris, Senior Vice President of Tourism.
