GLOUCESTER COUNTY — A Williamsburg man was arrested Monday morning by Virginia State Police after fleeing from sheriff’s office deputies in Gloucester County.
Acording to VSP, it responded to a call by the Gloucester Sheriff’s Office to assist in arresting a fleeing suspect the morning of June 23. State police said the sheriff’s office initially responded to a domestic violence call at a local residence, where a male suspect resisted arrest and assaulted one of the deputies attempting to take him into custody.
The suspect, who VSP said was later identified as 36-year-old David L. Valentine of Williamsburg, then fled the residence in a 2018 Nissan Rogue.
State Police said a pursuit was initiated on Route 17, during which troopers attempted several times to stop the vehicle. Valentine refused to stop, making several attempts to strike the Troopers’ vehicles, police said. Valentine then ran a red light at the intersection of Main Street and Route 17, striking a 2021 GMC Sierra.
After crashing the vehicle, Valentine was arrested without incident, VSP said, and no troopers were injured during the pursuit or arrest.
The operator of the GMC and Valentine were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
According to the Virginia State Police, Valentine is charged with felony elude, two counts of assault and battery, assault on a law enforcement officer, driving while revoked-DUI related, driving with interlock, and various traffic infractions stemming from the pursuit.
