YORKTOWN — Contractor crews will be performing paving work in Historic Yorktown starting as early as April 28 through late spring, the Virginia Department of Transportation announced.

The work will include milling and paving the roadways throughout the downtown area stretching from the Colonial Parkway to the U.S. Coast Guard Station, including Water Street between the Colonial Parkway overpass to the picnic area entrance, Ballard Street up to the Coast Guard Station and all other cross streets, VDOT said. These operations are scheduled to begin with Nelson Road, Ballard Street, Cornwallis Road, Lafayette Road, Moore House Road and Moore Lane.

During construction, motorists should expect daytime lane closures with flagging operations, from as early as 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to VDOT. Intermittent temporary daytime closures with detours will also be implemented as needed for Matthews Street from southbound Route 17 to the waterfront and for Alexander Hamilton Boulevard from Route 17.

VDOT said crews will work to minimize impacts and mitigate traffic issues as much as possible, and access will be maintained for local businesses and residences.

As all work is dependent on weather and other factors, VDOT noted the schedule is subject to change.
