W&M Men’s Tennis Earns ITA Academic Accolades

WILLIAMSBURG — The William & Mary men’s tennis team earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team honor for the eighth straight year and placed four players on the organization’s Scholar-Athlete list.

Nikita Bortnichek, Bill Duo, Albert Hansen, and Alexander Karman were each named ITA Scholar-Athletes, while the Green and Gold posted a team cumulative GPA higher than 3.2 to earn a spot on the team list.

Jeff Kader. In marked the second-straight year that Duo and Karman were honored, while Hansen and Bortnichek received their first accolades. In total, 1,059 Division I Men’s student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 176 men’s tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction. A total of 77 W&M student-athletes have garnered ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition, including 68 over the last 13 years.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, and 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year.
