YORKTOWN — St. Mark Lutheran Church and Sine Nomine Presents will host The Virginia Handbell Consort under the direction of Al Reese on Sunday, Dec. 1.
The concert will take place at 5 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church on 118 Old York-Hampton Highway in Yorktown.
According to St. Mark Lutheran Church, the Virginia Handbell Consort is celebrating over 20 years of sharing the joy of ringing and is returning for a program of holiday music. The program, “Tidings We Ring,” will feature “something for everyone,” featuring traditional arrangements of holiday favorites, as well as original arrangements by maestro Al Reese.
The Virginia Handbell Consort is comprised of auditioned musicians performing on over five octaves of Schulmerich bells, five and a half octaves of Melody Chimes, three octaves of Petit and Fritsen bells, and other percussion instruments, concert organizers said.
The program is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted to help support the concert series. Following the program members of the audience will have an opportunity to meet and talk with Reese, and members of the ensemble, and purchase recordings.
