WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Police Department announced an arrest in the Sunday rape of a 36-year-old female in the 700 block of Scotland Street.
Orlando Rodriguez Rivera, 41, of York County, was charged with rape through the use of the victim’s mental incapacity or physical helplessness, police said.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the scene on Jan. 21 at approximately 1:50 a.m. An initial investigation revealed that Rivera raped the 36-year-old female in an alley located in the 700 block of Scotland Street.
Rivera and the victim had been seen patronizing the Brickhouse Tavern in Williamsburg prior to the incident, police said. The victim suffered minor injuries and was transported to Riverside Doctors’ Hospital.
The suspect was not at the scene when the police arrived. Police said he was arrested at his residence at approximately 8 a.m. the same day and was transported to the Virginia Regional Peninsula Jail.
