WILLIAMSBURG — The Jupiter String Quartet, the quartet-in-residence at the University of Illinois since 2012, will present one of two performances in Virginia with pianist Soyeon Kate Lee in Williamsburg on Tuesday, Feb. 13.

The concert, presented by Chamber Music Society of Williamsburg, will feature the music of Ludwig van Beethoven, Elizabeth Maconchy, and Johannes Brahms, and take place at the Williamsburg Regional Library.

Winners of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and the Banff International String Quartet Competition, the Jupiter String Quartet consists of violinists Nelson Lee and Meg Freivogel, violist Liz Freivogel (Meg’s older sister), and cellist Daniel McDonough (Meg’s husband, Liz’s brother-in-law). Based in Urbana, Illinois, the quartet has been performing together since 2001.

“We are so pleased to play with Soyeon Kate Lee, a beautifully expressive pianist and good friend of ours from many summers together at the Bowdoin International Music Festival. It is always wonderful to collaborate with a great musician, but even more special when that musician is a longtime friend and colleague,” the quartet said of collaborating with Soyeon Kate Lee.

Korean-American pianist Lee has been lauded by The New York Times as a pianist with “a huge, richly varied sound, a lively imagination and a firm sense of style,” and by the Washington Post for her “stunning command of the keyboard.”

The night before, on Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m., the quartet and Lee will be presented in concert by the Feldman Chamber Music Society at the Kaufman Theater at Chrysler Museum of Art (1 Memorial Place).
