Williamsburg Man Dead After Single-Vehicle Crash on I-64 in James City County

JAMES CITY COUNTY — A Williamsburg man died Thursday evening in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 in James City County.

Virginia State Police said the accident occurred at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Interstate 64 westbound at the 231A exit ramp.
According to VSP, its preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a 2014 Ford F350, 44-year-old Scott Murray Thomason of Stone Bridge, Williamsburg, was exiting the interstate when he lost control on the exit ramp and ran off the roadway. The vehicle went into a ditch and overturned several times before striking a tree.
Thomason, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, police said. Speed was declared a contributing factor. It is unknown if alcohol was a contributing factor, according to VSP.
