WILLIAMSBURG — From mobile to morter, Dominion Dogs has officially opened up its storefront and will be celebrating a ribbon cutting on Sept. 22 at 11 a.m.
Owners David and Andrea Andre met in college while working at a pizza restaurant. Upon graduating, each worked in their respective fields. David, a high school history teacher, and Andrea, a creative director for a web marketing firm. They married in 2013 and had their first daughter, Kit, in 2018. David was always looking for a way to pick up extra income and bought a hot dog cart in late 2019.
When the pandemic hit and everyone was told to stay home, David fixed up the hot dog cart and got all his paperwork submitted. He took the cart out for the first time in Spring 2020. Daughter Dorothy — “Dot” — was born in 2021 and the Andres decided to make Dominion Dogs their priority focus for income. After that, the demand grew so much that they decided to open a restaurant.
The business specializes in American fare: hot dogs, fries, and as soon as is able, cold beer. The average price is $12-$15 per person and is recommended for anyone, even those looking for a quick bite.
Dominion Dogs is best known for its Lowcountry Dog, with pimento cheese and pepper jelly, and while the Chicago Dog is also popular, the business sells Chili Cheese dogs the most. Folks are said to love the RC Cola, and it also features a wide selection of glass bottle sodas.
“It’s not just a place to get a hot dog, it is a cool place to hang out,” said Andrea.
Dominion Dogs is located in The Edge District in the James-York Plaza on 701 K Merrimac Trail in Williamsburg. Hours of operation are Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The restaurant is closed on Tuesday.
Reservations are not required. Orders to-go are an option but must be placed in-person for now. Dominion Dogs hopes to launch online ordering in the near future. For more information, visit the official Dominion Dogs website.
