Memorial Day Closures Around the Historic Triangle

HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Memorial Day is observed Monday, May 29, marking the unofficial start to summer across the region. Here is how local offices and services are impacted by the federal holiday.

James City County

According to the county, James City County offices, facilities, services, libraries and courts will observe the following schedule for the Memorial Day holiday:

County Offices: 
Closed May 29.

James City County Recreation Center and Abram Frink Jr. Community Center:
Closed May 29.

All County parks are open year-round.

Park Stores and Guest Services Offices:
Open May 29.

Tewning Road, Jolly Pond Road and Toano Convenience Centers:
Closed May 29.

Garbage Transfer Station:
Closed May 29.

Curbside Recycling:
One day delay. Monday’s recycling will be picked up on Tuesday, Tuesday’s on Wednesday, etc.

Closed May 28 and 29.

Closed May 29.

City of Williamsburg

City of Williamsburg offices will be closed Monday, May 29, in observance of Memorial Day, the city said, including all offices in the Municipal Building on Lafayette Street and Quarterpath Recreation Center.

Waller Mill Park will follow normal operating hours, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Garbage will be collected on its regular schedule Monday, May 29 and Tuesday, May 30. Recycling collection will be delayed by one day; Monday’s recycling will be picked up on Tuesday, and Tuesday’s recycling will be picked up on Wednesday, the city said.

Anyone who needs to pay a city bill when offices are closed can use the 24-hour bill payment dropbox located at the front of the Municipal Building, 401 Lafayette St. Payments can also be made online. The city cautions dropbox payments made on Monday, May 29, will not be posted until Tuesday, May 30.

York County

According to the county, the following York County courts and offices are closed in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 29:

  • York County Offices – Closed
  • Courts – Closed
  • Virginia Cooperative Extension Service – Closed
  • York-Poquoson Social Services – Closed
  • York County Public Libraries – Closed
  • Waste Management Administrative Office – Closed

Memorial Day Garbage/Recycling Collection Schedule: 

  • Curbside garbage collections are on schedule on Memorial Day. Residents are reminded to have their garbage containers at the roadside by 7 a.m.
  • Curbside recycling will not be collected. Collections are delayed one day until all routes are completed on Saturday.
  • The Waste Management Facility including Citizen Drop Off, Recycling Center, and VPPSA Compost Facility are closed on Memorial Day.
