July is National Ice Cream Month and James City County is celebrating with its own list of top places to sample the frozen treat.
The month-long holiday was created in 1984, when President Ronald Reagan issued a proclamation, calling for all people of the United States to celebrate the dessert with “appropriate ceremonies and activities.”
“Ice cream is a nutritious and wholesome food,” Reagan wrote. “It enjoys a reputation as the perfect dessert and snack food.”
In the spirit of Reagan’s passion for ice cream, James City County has released a list of eight local joints that offer a wide selection of frozen favorites. Here are the county’s suggestions:
1.) Ben and Jerry’s at the Williamsburg Premium Outlet
2.) Bruster’s Real Ice Cream in Williamsburg Crossing
3.) Coldstone Creamery on Monticello Avenue
4.) Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream & Yogurt near Lightfoot Marketplace
5.) Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt in Settler’s Market
6.) Sweet Frog in New Town Williamsburg
7.) Craft 31 (for adult milkshakes with a boozy addition)
8.) Josephine’s Creamery de Chocolat at Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Any place not make the list? Let us know in the comments.
