The REV3 Triathlon will roll into town this weekend with a brand new course.
The triathlon, which will take place July 9 and 10, has been held in Williamsburg since 2013. However, this is the first year the events will occur in the western area of the county, focusing on the Chickahominy River, Route 5 and the Virginia Capital Trail.
Chickahominy Riverfront Park patrons and motorists along Route 5 should expect temporary pier and boat ramp closures as well as road delays near the park.
The bicycle and running sections of the triathlon will start at the park and cross the Judith Stewart Dresser Bridge into Charles City County.
Drivers should exercise caution in the morning when cyclists are on the road. James City County Police will direct traffic in front of the park during the race to help prevent delays.
The fishing pier will be closed from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 9 and from 5 to 10 a.m. July 10. The boat ramp will also be closed from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. July 10.
The county has identified the following alternative piers and boat ramps for patrons:
Alternative locations for pier fishing
Alternative locations for boat ramps
Alternative locations for kayak, canoe, small boat launches
- All boat ramps
- Powhatan Creek Park
- Jamestown Beach Event Park
