Arts
Head over to Legacy Hall on Friday for a show by local artist Mary Riley Pugh. Pugh is giving back to the Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg by hosting an art show that includes abstract expressionist paintings. Half of the proceeds from the sale of her work will go toward the Hospice House and 100 percent of the planned silent auction will also go to the organization. Family Fun
Saturday is a great day for all ages over at the Jamestown Settlement. An exhibit showing the evolution of military weaponry and uniforms will be on display along with entertainment from the 17th-century Jamestown and eighteenth-century Yorktown. Tickets are $16 for adults and $7.50 for kids aged 6-12. Don’t miss out on the all-day Tales of Two Centuries event. More details are on the calendar.
If you’re looking for a fall-oriented activity, swing over to the Chickahominy Riverfront Park and stuff some scarecrows. The Harvest Festival starts at 11 a.m. Saturday and features arts and crafts, local musicians and carnival games. Parking is $3 and it’s $15 to stuff a scarecrow. Fundraisers
If you’re hungry from all that scarecrow stuffing and you want to give back to the community, Ruby Tuesday’s has the event for you. On Saturday, the restaurant will be honoring flyers that will give 20 percent of your meal purchase to the local Walk to End Alzheimer’s event. It’s a part of Alzheimer’s Action Day. After you eat, why not grab a few plants for the house? Virginia Living Museum’s horticulture staff is holding a native plant sale all weekend to raise funds. Museum staff will be there to answer any questions you might have about native plants. More details are on the calendar.
Music Events
Looking for some Friday night tunes? Berret’s Taphouse Grill has you covered. The Hark, a local duo that plays rock, soul, folk and dance cover songs, will hit the restaurant’s outdoor stage at 7:30 p.m. The restaurant is located at 199 South Boundary St. More details are on the calendar.
If you’re still in the mood for music Saturday, head over to Saude Creek Vineyards for Saturday Afternoon Music & Wine. Jocelyn Oldham, a local musician and former member of the Music Theatre of Williamsburg, will entertain guests from 2 to 5 p.m. Check out the calendar for more details.
Farmer’s Markets
The Toano Farmers Market provides will provide a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables Saturday. The market will be open from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday at the corner of Forge and Richmond roads in Toano. The calendar has more details.
Also on Saturday, the Williamsburg Farmer’s Market will be open from 8 a.m. until noon. Local produce can be found at the market that’s located in Merchants Square at 402 W. Duke of Gloucester Street in Williamsburg. See the calendar for more details.
At Yorktown Market Days, open Saturdays until Sept. 28, shoppers can find fresh meat, seafood, baked goods and more. The market is located at 425 Water Street in Yorktown and opens at 8 a.m. See the calendar for more details.
