York County to Host Inaugural Colonial Croaker Classic Fishing Tournament

YORK COUNTY — York County, in partnership with the Historic Triangle Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, is hosting the inaugural Colonial Croaker Classic Fishing Tournament, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 2–3 at Riverwalk Landing in Historic Yorktown.

According to the county, the family-friendly event is open to anglers of all ages and experience levels. Participants may launch from any boat ramp or fish from any shoreline or pier within the designated area, which includes the entire Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, extending downriver to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.

Registration is open now, with entry fees ranging from $50 to $200 depending on category.

Available divisions include:

  • Fishing Teams
  • Largest Croaker Calcutta
  • Puppy Drum Calcutta
  • Flounder Calcutta
  • Youth Angler Croaker Calcutta
  • Lady Angler Croaker Calcutta

Fishing Competition Schedule:

  • Lines In: Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 2–3, As early as 6 a.m.
  • Weigh-Ins: Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 2–3 from 2–5:30 p.m. at Yorktown Freight Shed
  • Awards Ceremony: Sunday, Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. at Yorktown Freight Shed

All fish must be caught using hook and line, the county said. While boats may fish as far upriver or throughout the bay as they wish, the tournament’s downriver boundary is the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Learn more about tournament rules and regulations online.
