W&M Trio Earns All-CAA Honors as Women’s Cross Country Finishes Fourth at CAA Championships

MECHANICSVILLE — William & Mary women’s cross country placed three runners among the top 11 on the way to placing fourth at the CAA Championships on Friday morning at Pole Green Park.

Junior Arianna DeBoer and sophomore Sofia Istnick earned All-CAA honors for the second-straight season, while sophomore Catherine Garrison rounded out the trio earning her first all-league honor. It marked the first time since 2019 that W&M had three runner earn All-CAA honors.

Northeastern’s Abigail Hassman won the CAA individual title in a time of 21:03.5. Elon took home the team crown with a score of 36 points followed by Stony Brook (55), Northeastern (78), W&M (98), and Monmouth (112).

Istnick improved a spot from her performance last season, placing eighth in the 111-runner field on Friday. She covered the 6K course in 21:27.7. Istnick was 26th after the opening 2K and improved 18 spots over the final 4K to finish in the top 10.

DeBoer was just four seconds behind her teammate and finished inside the top 10 for the second-straight year. She was ninth in a time of 21:31.5.

Garrison covered the course in 21:39.9, finishing two spots behind DeBoer in 11th place. She was 25th after the opening 2K and improved 17 spots over the next 2K, before finishing 11th.

Senior Kyra Holland and graduate student Heidi Fortin rounded out the Tribe’s top five. Holland improved eight positions over the final 2K, crossing the line in 22:17.9 to finish 32nd overall. Fortin was 41st at 22:38.0.

Juniors Annika Griggs (22:40.9) and Lucy Young (22:44.2) and senior Emily Sell (22:56.0) finished inside the top 50 at 42nd, 44th, and 48th, respectively.

The Tribe continues the championship season at the NCAA Southeast Region Championships on Friday, Nov. 10. USC Upstate will host the event at the Milliken Research Center.
