RICHMOND — William & Mary graduate student Lauren Curran was named the CAA Field Hockey Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Curran joins junior Pyper Friedman in earning CAA Player of the Week honors this season. Friedman was named the league’s player of the week on Sept. 4 and Sept. 18. It marks the second time in Curran’s career she earned the honor, taking home the distinction during her senior season after tallying two goals in a win at Davidson.
Curran scored three goals last week, including two in the Tribe’s 3-2 victory over CAA leader Monmouth on Oct. 20. She gave the Tribe a 2-1 lead in the sixth minute against the Hawks, before notching the game-winner in the 39th minute. The winner came on a redirect in front off a penalty corner and clinched the Tribe’s spot in next week’s CAA Tournament. Curran added the Tribe’s first goal in Sunday’s match-up in A-10 foe La Salle.
With her weekend performance, Curran moved up the Tribe’s career lists in game-winning goals, goals and points. She moved into the top 20 in career points, coming in at No. 17 with 58. The Media, Pa., native took sole possession of 15th on the Tribe’s career goal scoring list with 27. Friday’s game-winner was the seventh of her career, which ranks eighth in W&M history.
On the year, Curran leads the Tribe with 17 points on seven goals and three assists. She ranks eighth in the league in goals and 10th in points. In league games only, the graduate forward is third in the CAA goals (4) and points (9).
Curran and the Tribe return to action when it hosts Queens on Friday, Oct. 27, for Senior Day. The match is slated for a 6 p.m. start time and fans are asked to arrive early to celebrate our wonderful seniors and graduate students.
