Alexa Halko has officially medaled in all three races she participated in during the 2016 Rio Paralympics.
On Friday, the 16-year-old junior at Jamestown High School won silver in her third and final race of the Paralympics, the women’s 800-meter.
The youngest member of the U.S. Paralympic Track & Field Team, Halko edged out Kare Adenegan of Great Britain to take second with a time of 2:02.08 in Friday’s 800-meter race.
Hanna Cockroft, also of Great Britain, won gold with a time of 2:00.62 seconds.
In an interview with WYDaily, Halko explained that she geared much of her training toward Friday’s race.
“I’m preparing the most for the 800-meter,” she said. “Because I have the most success in that race right now. That one is the most nerve-racking for me.”
Halko won bronze Saturday in the women’s 100 meter and won silver in the women’s 400 meter on Wednesday.
Before Friday’s race, Halko told the United States Olympic Committee she had hoped to round out her medal collection with gold in what she considers her best event, the 800-meter.
“You never know,” Halko said. “I hope so, because that would be my dream.”
