Warhill’s girls tennis team earned a thrilling 5-4 win against Poquoson on Thursday in the Conference 25 championship match.
The win marks Warhill’s first conference championship in program history.
“I’ve got to give [my girls] credit. Poquoson gave it their all, but we were just a little better today,” Warhill Coach Jim Gomes said. “The girls earned it.”
The Lions and Islanders were split 3-3 at the end of singles, with Warhill winning at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5.
After splitting No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, the overall match came down to a grueling three-set match at No. 3 doubles.
