Legacy 76 will have a different head coach when it begins a second season this spring.
Eric Dutt, who also served as Virginia Legacy Soccer Club’s youth director, announced his resignation from the Historic Triangle’s National Premier Soccer League team last month.
He has accepted a position with Chesterfield United FC, based in Richmond, as the girls program technical director.
Dutt led Legacy 76 to a 3-2-5 record in its inaugural campaign in 2014.
“These past three years [with Virginia Legacy] have proved to be quite special and have provided me with great relationships and friendships that I hope will last a lifetime,” Dutt said in a news release. “I am very proud of the culture that we have created and the positive environment that exists for player development. I hope that Virginia Legacy will always be a special place where players come first.”
Virginia Legacy Technical Director Bobby O’Brien said the head coaching situation has been figured out, but a formal announcement won’t be made until March.
The Virginia Legacy Soccer Club has hired a new youth director who is slated to begin March 1.
In the meantime, Legacy has begun shifting around personnel to fill the gaps caused by Dutt’s departure. Winter advanced development programs will continue under the direction of Alex Spirn, Virginia Legacy’s community soccer director, with the help of Legacy staff coaches.
“We are extremely grateful for what Eric Dutt has brought to this organization over the past three years,” O’Brien said in the release. “He has grown the ADP program in numbers but also in quality. His commitment to all aspects of the club were truly appreciated and he will be missed not only by the staff but by many of the parents and certainly all the kids he has been able to work with.”
