Williamsburg Christian Academy didn’t take much time to relax over Christmas break as the Eagles took first place in the Ronald C. Perkins Funeral Home bracket.
On Saturday, Williamsburg Christian Academy (9-3) narrowly defeated Hampton Christian in the finals of the tournament 56-54.
Andre Brown, who was named the tournament’s most valuable player, hit two crucial free throws in the final moments of the game to propel the Eagles to victory.
The Eagles sank four consecutive free throws within the final minutes of the game, including two by Brown and two by Xavier Green, to edge out Hampton Christian.
Brown finished with a game-high 22 points, while Green delivered a well-rounded effort with with 17 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for Williamsburg Christian Academy.

Walsingham Boys Drop First Game of the Season in Benedictine Tournament
Despite Richard Washington’s 19 points, Walsingham Academy was unable to generate enough offense to overcome St. Anne’s-Belfield in the first round of the Benedictine Capital City Classic.
Washington was one of four Walsingham players to score in the game. Mark Seaman recorded 14 points, while Kai Brown added 10.
The loss marks Walsingham’s first on the season.

Strong Second Half Helps Jamestown Defeat Essex
Coming off a buzzer-beating defeat against Surry County on Friday, Jamestown found life in the second half versus Essex to rebound with a much-needed win in the Joe Ellis Tournament.
Jamestown coach Geoff McCulloch said the Eagles came out sluggish in the first half mostly due to the hangover after a heartbreaking loss the day before. McCulloch focused on getting more energy out of his team during halftime.
Jamestown outscored Essex by a 41-28 margin in the second half, including 12 second-half points from Duncan McDevitt. Evan Wang led the Eagles with 14 points.

Williamsburg Christian Academy Girls Suffer First Loss of Season in Boo Williams Tournament
The Williamsburg Christian Academy (8-1) girls basketball team suffered its first defeat of the season during the opening round of the Boo Williams Christmas Tournament as Woodside High School upended the Eagles 46-33.
Imani Bryant led all scorers with 16 points for Williamsburg Christian. Nissa Chillers chipped in 12 points in the loss.
