NEWPORT NEWS — The Hampton Roads Academy/Foxtail Farm Interscholastic Equestrian Association team took home first place in the High School and Middle School sections during the Region 5, Zone 3 show hosted by Hampton Roads Academy on Dec. 13.
Hampton Roads Academy had six riders compete in the show, including Kelsea Hall, Ramsay Smith, Alex Gendreau, Brianna Underwood, Meredith Hutchens and Lindsay Kolvalcik.
The show was composed of 14 teams from North Carolina, Maryland and Virginia. The riders competed in more than 20 hunt-seat equitation classes on the flat and over the fences. The high school riders earned 36 team points, while the middle school riders earned 23 points.
Smith, a middle-school rider, praised the teamwork and cooperation from the Hampton Roads Academy/Foxtail Equestrian team.
“My favorite part of the competition was seeing our team work together to keep everybody organized and ready to show,” Smith said. “Working together as a team just helps you win.”
