Hampden-Sydney College sophomore Mitch Owens, a former two-sport standout at Walsingham Academy, turned in one of the better performances of his college career over the weekend.

Owens scored 19 points on 6 for 8 shooting from the floor – including 5 for 7 from 3-point range – and pulled down five rebounds in just 18 minutes off the bench as HSC rolled past Shenandoah, 83-49, on Saturday night.

Owens has appeared in 14 of the Tigers’ 15 contests this season and is averaging 7.3 points and 3.2 rebounds in just under 20 minutes per game.

At Walsingham, Owens was an all-Tidewater Conference selection as a senior when he averaged roughly 14 points and seven rebounds. That season he helped the Trojans earn a share of the TCIS regular-season title before losing to Christchurch in the quarterfinals of the Independent Schools state tournament.
