Ina Maxine Curtis, 81, of Quinton

Ina Maxine Curtis (Vincent Funeral Home)

Ina Maxine Curtis, known by those who loved her most as Mom, Momma, Memaw, and Mac, passed peacefully surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on February 17, 1945, and went home to God on March 31, 2026.

She was born and raised in Clay County, West Virginia, the youngest of six children. Growing up on a farm, she spent her days tending livestock and stacking hay alongside her father—lessons that shaped her strong work ethic and caring spirit.

At 18, after graduating, she moved to Alexandria, Virginia, where she began a remarkable career in government service spanning more than 37 years. She started at the FBI in Washington, D.C., later worked at the Weather Bureau, and ultimately spent the majority of her career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Belvoir as a Budget Analyst—a role she truly loved.

She had a heart big enough for everyone. Her home was always open, and she made sure that anyone she cared about felt welcomed, valued, and loved. She loved her family deeply and treasured every visit, conversation, and moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of pure, unconditional love.

Her family was her pride and joy, and in return, she was the pride and joy of her family. She was the best mom anyone could ever be blessed with, and her children are so incredibly proud to have had her as their mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arley and Tressie James, as well as two brothers, Emory and Versil.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Tammy Ruhl (Tim), Tanya Wright (Robert), and Jason Curtis (Suzie); her grandchildren: Justin (Nicole), Robert, Jeffrey (Ashley), Taylor, Jessie (Zach), Ethan (Pinky), Kelly, Hope (Rondell), Baileigh, and Abigail; her great-grandchildren: Reese, Kinsley, Corbyn, Margaret, Matthew, Hudson, Theodore, and Greyson; her sisters: Dinas, Patricia, and Evelyn; along with many nieces and nephews.

The family will be holding a celebration of life memorial service on Saturday, April 11 at 2:00 PM at Kentwood Heights Baptist Church in Quinton, Virginia.

“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” — Proverbs 31:26

Her legacy of love, strength, and devotion to family will live on in all who knew her.
